Teaching Philosophy

I strongly believe that teaching is a noble profession that shapes the future of individuals. As a composition instructor, I prioritize the writing journey over the final product, encouraging students to focus on planning, drafting, revising, and editing their work while providing personalized feedback and peer mentoring. This approach fosters confidence and a sense of belonging, as evidenced by improved writing skills and student appreciation for individualized attention. I aim to be a facilitator, creating a secure and nurturing classroom environment where all students feel valued and cared for. Drawing inspiration from scholars like Anne-Marie Womack and David Bartholomae, I emphasize the importance of accommodation and the challenges of entering unfamiliar discourse communities, encouraging close reading and meaningful peer conversations. I recognize that effective writing is a continuous process, and I regularly reflect on my teaching methods to meet my students' diverse needs.
